Driver Training Vehicles

In the past skidpans were universally acknowledged as providing the nearest thing to 'the real thing' for teaching skid control, but by no means accepted as ideal. The Skidmaster System is the first system specifically designed for teaching skid control techniques.

Until the introduction of Skidmaster the only methods of teaching skid control were based on repetition exercises using systems varying in merit.

The Old skidpan operated by repeatedly confronting students with skid situations, which from the pupils point of view is rather like a novice climbing into the drivers seat for the first time and being taken straight out into the rush hour traffic.

Some levels of competence might be achieved, but what did they feel about the learning experience? How much did they retain? How confusing was it? Did they return for more?

Skidpans - The Shortcomings
Examination of the difficulties of teaching skid control reveals that little progress was made for years, no-one seemed to have approached the subject of teaching skid control techniques from the viewpoint of 'what is the best way to teach it?'

The shortcomings of a skidpan were accepted because there was no serious alternative. People went to work with what they had, and time has compounded the problem, people are more reluctant to view any alternative independently.

As a result, all subsequent methods are unnecessarily and unfairly measured and compared against the skidpan.

Skidmaster - The Bespoke Training Approach
Skidmaster enables the problem to be approached from the students' point of view.

Looking at a problem from a different viewpoint to everybody else and coming up with the answer to a problem that most people didn't realise existed.

The Skidmaster Toyota was designed specifically to instruct the pupil in skid recognition and control, since the emulation of skids is the only medium by which the pupil can demonstrate, to himself, that the theory works and gain the experience of different types of skids.
